Enough hate. Enough prejudice. Enough violence.

Dear Vista Family,

Just as we see a light at the end of the tunnel for a global pandemic that has separated us for more than a year, we are confronted by the brutal acts of violence against the Asian community where we have yet to find a vaccine for hate, prejudice, discrimination, misogyny, and race-based supremacy. Our hearts are broken by the Anti-Asian acts of violence that are on the rise across our country. Our hearts are broken that these latest acts of hate are not isolated to the Asian community but effect all communities of color or perceived difference.

Our Vista schools and the families that attend them have their roots in Historic Filipinotown, Koreatown, and Little Saigon and are closely knitted to our mission and vision for a more just America. The people in these neighborhoods are our friends, neighbors, and our families. Their plight is our plight, and their fight is our fight.

We stand with these communities today to say enough hate. Enough prejudice. Enough violence. Enough seeing our fellow human beings as anything else than our mothers and fathers, our brothers and sisters, our very selves.

However, we do not take a stand only for today or this moment. Vista Schools are global academies that have been created expressly to teach our students to explore the world and to recognize and honor perspectives other than their own. Our students are taught to listen and speak from the heart, to take action when they see injustice, and to seek solutions for inequalities both globally and in their own backyard.

Today we stand with the Asian, Latino, Black, and all communities of color in voicing our outrage, shame, and broken hearts. However, we are in this fight for today and every day. Our commitment is to ensure that our students leave our schools empowered to fight for justice and ready to take action for a better tomorrow for themselves, their families, and future generations to come.

1년 넘게 우리를 갈라놓은 세계적 대유행의 터널 끝에서 빛이 보이듯, 증오, 편견, 차별, 여성혐오, 인종에 기초한 패권주의 백신을 아직 찾지 못한 아시아 공동체에 대한 잔혹한 폭력행위에 직면하게 됩니다. 우리나라 미국 전역에서 증가하고 있는 반 아시아적 폭력행위로 인해 우리의 가슴은 무너지고 있습니다. 이러한 최근의 증오 행위는 아시아 공동체에 국한된 것이 아니라 모든 색채 공동체나 인식된 차이점에 영향을 미친다는 사실에 우리는 가슴이 아픕니다.

우리 비스타 학교와 그 학교에 다니는 가족들은 역사적인 필리핀 타운, 코리아타운, 그리고 리틀 사이공에 뿌리를 두고 있으며, 보다 정의로운 미국에 대한 우리의 사명과 비전에 밀접하게 관련되어 있습니다. 이 동네 사람들은 우리의 친구이자, 이웃, 가족들 입니다. 그들의 곤경은 우리의 곤경이고, 그들의 싸움은 우리의 싸움입니다.

우리는 오늘 우리의 커뮤니티 앞에 서서 말하고 싶습니다. 편견도 그만 됐습니다. 혐오감도 그만 됐습니다. 폭력도 그만 됐습니다. 벌써 충분히 혐오감을 표현하기 위해 이 지역 사회들과 함께 서 있었습니다. 편견과 폭력은 이제 충분합니다. 우리의 어머니와 아버지, 형제자매, 바로 우리 자신만이 아닌 다른 어떤 존재로 우리의 동료 인간을 보는 것만으로도 충분합니다.

그러나, 우리는 오늘이나 지금 이 순간만을 위해 이러한 입장을 취하지 않습니다. 비스타 스쿨(Vista School)은 우리 학생들이 세계를 탐험하고 그들 자신의 관점 이외의 다른 관점을 인식하고 존중하도록 가르치기 위해 특별히 만들어진 글로벌 아카데미입니다.

우리 학생들은 진심으로 가슴으로 나오는 말을 하도록 교육받으며, 부당함을 볼 때 행동을 취하도록 교육받으며, 자신의 불만과 불평들은 자신의 뒷마당에서 해결책을 찾듯이 세계적으로 관점으로 해결책을 찾도록 교육을 하고 있습니다.

오늘날 우리는 아시아인, 라틴인, 흑인, 그리고 모든 색깔의 공동체와 함께 우리의 분노, 수치심, 그리고 아픈 가슴의 목소리를 내고 있습니다. 하지만, 우리는 이 싸움을 오늘과 내일, 매일 해야만 합니다. 저희는 약속 합니다. 우리 학교는 우리 학생들이 정의를 위해 싸울 수 있는 권한을 가지고 자신과 가족, 그리고 미래 세대를 위해 더 나은 내일을 위해 자부심을 가진 행동을 교육 시키고 헌신 하겠습니다.

Así como vemos una luz al final del túnel de una pandemia global que nos ha separado durante más de un año, nos enfrentamos a los brutales actos de violencia contra la comunidad asiática donde aún tenemos que encontrar una vacuna contra el odio, los prejuicios, la discriminación, la misoginia y la supremacía racial. Nuestros corazones están destrozados por los actos de violencia contra los asiáticos que están aumentando en todo nuestro país. Nuestros corazones están destrozados porque estos últimos actos de odio no están aislados de la comunidad asiática, sino que afectan a todas las comunidades de color o diferencias percibidas.

Nuestras escuelas de Vista y las familias que las asisten tienen sus raíces en el histórico Filipinotown, Koreatown y Little Saigon y están estrechamente unidas a nuestra misión y visión de un Estados Unidos más justo. Las personas en estos vecindarios son nuestros amigos, vecinos y nuestras familias. Su difícil situación es nuestra situación, y su lucha es nuestra lucha.

Estamos hoy con estas comunidades para decir basta de odio. Basta de prejuicios. Basta de violencia. Basta de ver a nuestros semejantes como algo más que nuestras madres y padres, nuestros hermanos y hermanas, nosotros mismos.

Sin embargo, no tomamos una posición solo por hoy o este momento. Las Escuelas Vista son academias globales que han sido creadas expresamente para enseñar a nuestros estudiantes a explorar el mundo y reconocer y honrar perspectivas distintas a las suyas. A nuestros estudiantes se les enseña a escuchar y hablar desde el corazón, a actuar cuando ven una injusticia y a buscar soluciones para las desigualdades tanto a nivel mundial como en su propio patio trasero.

Hoy apoyamos a los asiáticos, latinos, negros y todas las comunidades de color al expresar nuestra indignación, vergüenza y corazones rotos. Sin embargo, estamos en esta lucha por hoy y todos los días. Nuestro compromiso es asegurar que nuestros estudiantes salgan de nuestras escuelas empoderados para luchar por la justicia y listos para actuar para un mañana mejor para ellos, sus familias y las generaciones futuras.
