Dear Vista Families,

Due to COVID-19, Vista Charter Public Schools will only be online until the end of the school year. Limited office hours will remain in place for enrollment.

We know the impact this will have on your families and know you will have many concerns and questions. We have been actively preparing for this possibility and are prepared for online learning and distance learning for Vista families and students.

CLOSURE WITH DISTANCE LEARNING

  • Students will have access to their Chromebooks and will be provided with daily assignments in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, P.E., and electives for middle schools
  • Students will have a daily online class meeting with their teacher and parents and students will be able to interact with the teacher during additional online office hours
  • Vista Principals will hold daily online office hours for parents and students
  • The school psychologist and counselors will be available to meet with students privately online and have daily office hours for parents and students
  • Lunches will be provided for pickup at local school sites

In preparation for closing schools, all Vista students will be coming home with their Chromebooks at the end of the day today. Students will have 100% access to all our programs.

Please know that at Vista we are prepared and we will send complete information and instructions today and over the weekend.

We are acutely aware of the pain and suffering this will cause many of our families, but we also want all of our students and families to be safe and healthy throughout this crisis. Our hearts are with you and your children and we will continue to do everything in our power to make this time as smooth as we possibly can.

VCPS Remote Learning Plan

In the event our schools close due to the Coronavirus, students should be able to continue learning and receive a reasonable degree of teacher-led instruction.

All students and teachers have access to online tools which enable learning beyond the classroom and provide students with access to course materials at home. In the event of a closure, all Vista employees will take a hands-on approach to online learning and provide their students with multiple learning opportunities.

The following Vista plan will support communications and teaching/learning off-campus. Should we close, a very detailed daily schedule with times and clear explanation on how to access the support will be provided.

Superintendent

  1. Daily meeting with Principals
  2. Daily email communication with Principals
  3. Weekly communication to staff and families via the website and social media

Principals

  1. Daily morning meeting with faculty
  2. Daily email communication with faculty
  3. Daily electronic communication with parents (TalkingPoints/Dojo/PowerSchool)
  4. Published daily office hours for live communication with parents/families
  5. Ability to set up and hold video conferencing with parents on an as-needed basis.
  6. Weekly communication with staff and families via website and communication platforms

Our goal is for VCPS students to continue their learning and complete as many assignments as possible. Parents will play an important role in ensuring students are actively engaged with their online learning. The following schedule will be used for our students and families:

Elementary Schools: TK-5

  • 9 am check-in (15 minutes with parents/students building community)
  • Teachers will record and post 10-15 minute mini-lessons to Google Classroom or Dojo in Reading, Writing, and Math each day.
  • Teachers will hold a one-hour office hour block each day live on Google Meet where students and parents can ask questions to enhance learning.

Middle School: 6-8

  • Teachers will be available at designated times (see below) for the opportunity to meet/connect with students
  • Teachers will post meeting links on Google Classroom
  • Student work will be assigned on Google Classroom
  • Teachers will check for work completion on a daily basis

Families are encouraged to support students in completing their work on a daily basis and communicate with teachers when questions arise.

Students

  • Students are expected to care for and appropriately use all materials distributed to them (Chromebooks, reading books, textbooks, etc)
  • Students are expected to regularly check PowerSchool and Google Classroom for communications from teachers and staff
  • Students are expected to regularly check PowerSchool and Google Classroom for assignments and coursework that teachers provide.
  • Students are expected to connect with teachers through office hours on a daily basis if they have questions or need support on an assignment.
  • Students are expected to be aware of deadlines and complete their coursework in a timely and reasonable manner.
